Don’t Miss the Park’s Star Animal: Capybara!

The capybara is the world’s largest rodent and a close relative of the guinea pig. Native to South America, these adorable creatures are commonly found near rivers, lakes, and swamps.

Capybara Characteristics:

✔ Large Size: Adult capybaras can grow up to 1.2 meters long and weigh around 35-65 kg.
✔ Semi-Aquatic: Excellent swimmers, they often soak in water to cool down.
✔ Gentle Nature: They are friendly and coexist peacefully with birds, monkeys, turtles, and other animals.
✔ Highly Social: Usually live in small groups of 5-20 individuals.
✔ Herbivorous Diet: Mainly feed on grass, aquatic plants, and fruits.

Get up close to our lovable, happy capys ! Meet the world’s largest rodent with a capybara encounter! These mammals are adorable, curious and lots of fun. During our NEW capybara encounter, you will learn all about these special animals, get the chance to hand feed a capybara and pose for a photo. A Sydney Zoo capybara encounter makes a memorable activity and is perfect for older children. Book early to avoid disappointment as only four lucky people will get the chance to feed our capybara each day.

    only 2 minutes from the M4 and 30 seconds from the M7 motorways. The showpiece is the Bungarribee Wildlife Experience, where visitors get close to Australia’s unique and friendly koalas, kangaroos and a huge range of other  native species.

  • All per person prices quoted are in Australian dollars and valid from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2026
  • Once a booking is confirmed, requests for alterations or cancellation will not be granted
  • Sydney Zoo is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pmavailability and group size. We require advice of any specific dietary needs and food and beverage requirements at the time of booking and this will be confirmed on our booking

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION for Animal Encounter ExperiencePlease note this encounter time is subject to change due to exhibit maintenance.
    Encounter booking does not include zoo entry. A member return booking or online day ticket is required.
    Minimum age of 8 and a minimum height of 1.25m applies. All children must be comfortable in the presence of animals.
    All participants up to 16 years must be accompanied by a paid participating adult. All participants up to 18 years must have an adult or guardian present at check-in to sign and acknowledge the waiver form.
    Our consideration for the welfare of our animals is our number one priority. The animals at Sydney Zoo are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19. After undertaking an extensive risk assessment and mitigation process, we have relaxed our policy on vaccination requirements and the wearing of masks during our close encounters. Visitors will not be required to provide proof of vaccination prior to an Encounter at Sydney Zoo. Visitors will however, be required to complete a declaration regarding their health on arrival at the zoo on the day of your close encounter. We ask that if you have any flu or cold like symptoms, you call us to reschedule to another date. We also ask that you wear solid shoes and that your footwear is clean of any sand, soil or leaf litter.
    Encounter bookings are non-refundable. Any changes to your booking must be made at least 7 days prior to your visit date
    Fitness requirements: All participants must have the ability to stand and move freely inclusive of crouching, kneeling and be able to walk up a slight gradient over non-sealed surfaces (eg sand and gravel).
    Please check in at the information desk at the zoo entrance at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled encounter time. Encounters go ahead on time as scheduled.
    The encounter runs in all weather conditions. We recommend wet weather attire on wet days. Sydney Zoo reserves the right to cancel the encounter in extreme weather conditions. A reschedule date will be offered based on availability.

    Clothing requirements: For your comfort and safety, please wear enclosed footwear suitable for varied surfaces and to provide safety in the habitat. Visually ostentatious garments (i.e. costumes, novelty hats, etc.) are not permitted. Upon check-in, staff will be required to sight the shoes worn and the full mobility of each participant to ensure the highest level of safety for the duration of the animal encounter.

Cancellation Policy

25% surcharge if change or cancel after order is placed. No refund if cancel within 3days.
Noticed: If you would like to cancel, please kindly email us to cancel the tour at least 2 business days prior to this cancellation period. Once cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 7-28 business days.
Cancellation notification needs to be formally replied receipt by us during our office hours as acknowledgement.

NOTE: FIT TRAVEL would adopt suppliers' cancellation policy. Cancellation fees, if any by the suppliers, will be charged according to the supppliers' cancellation policy ( FIT TRAVEL does not charge additional cancellation fees ).
With this specific product's cancellation policy, the suppliers reserve the right of final interpretation.
If your order only pays the deposit of a product: a, if the product has available seats on the departure date and price and contents are the same as the order you placed, the booking would be confirmed by us without additional notification to you, and the deposit is not refundable. b, if the product has no available seats or price or contents are not the same, we might provide alternative options. If you do not agree with the options, the deposit is refundable.
